Children First: Hope and Education Amid War

The Children First program was launched in 2022 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in response to the devastating impact of the war on the lives of local children. Many families were displaced or left with minimal resources, while schools, kindergartens, and cultural centers were either destroyed or closed. It became clear that children needed more than just basic aid—they needed a chance to learn, express themselves, and feel safe.

That’s when our team, supported by volunteers and educators, decided to take action. The program provides humanitarian support, educational opportunities, and creative activities to children who continue living in or have returned to Kharkiv. Our goal is to preserve their right to childhood—even under the threat of war.

Through Children First, we organize:

  • Daily educational classes (math, languages, literature)

  • Creative workshops (art, theater, music)

  • Psychological support to help kids process trauma

  • Humanitarian aid including clothing, hygiene kits, and school supplies

  • Safe cultural events for children and their families

All activities are led by passionate educators, psychologists, and volunteers who understand the needs of children in wartime. Classes are held in safe spaces or shelters, and materials are often delivered directly to families who are unable to travel.

What makes our program special is the warm, human connection behind every activity. Our team works as if these were our own children—creating a sense of hope, community, and resilience.

Who will benefit from this program?

Any child in Kharkiv affected by the war—whether they lost their home, access to school, or simply a sense of normal life. We also provide assistance to families with disabled children or those in particularly vulnerable situations.

As the war continues, we plan to expand our reach—partnering with more schools, hiring mobile teams, and launching digital classes for children who cannot attend in person.

We believe that no matter the situation, every child deserves a chance to learn, grow, and dream. And we will do everything possible to make that happen.
